The Zentrum für Halbleitertechnik und Optoelektronik (ZHO) at the Universität Duisburg-Essen (UDE), Germany is an internationally recognized research institution for high-frequency optical components, optical communications and nanotechnology. As part of our research work within our European projects "IPHOBAC" and "ISIS" we wish to recruit scientific researchers working in the area of Millimeter-Wave and Terahertz-Photonics:

(Postdoc and PhD positions)

Areas of Research:

• Optical millimeter-wave (mmw) and terahertz generation and detection
• Semiconductor based mm-wave and THz photodiodes, photomixers and modulators
• Millimeter-wave communications, radar and sensing as well as millimeter-wave instrumentation
• Millimeter-wave and THz spectroscopy
  

Your Role as a Scientific Researcher:

• Work with us to develop new and innovative photonic components and functions for generating and detecting millimeter-wave signals
• Work with other partners from European industries and research institutions to define and carry out project needs for bringing millimeter-wave photonic components to a level of maturity that enables commercial exploitation
• Help us with the integration of the European excellence platform for broadband wireless/photonic access

Your Qualifications:

• Diploma, master or PhD degree in electrical engineering or physics
• Preferably working knowledge within one or more of the following areas: Millimeter-wave and terahertz technology, semiconductor optoelectronic component development (PD, EAM, EAT), millimeter-wave signal generation and detection

Further Details:

• The positions will involve independent research activities with the scope to work for a dissertation. Contracts will be initially limited up to 3 years.
• Depending on the applicant’s qualification the salary is equivalent to approximately 38.5k€  (German BATIIa).
